Ted was the only solo act at the performance and he made the top 3. However, the judges awarded the top prize to the Dan White Quartet. Ted was the only performer, however, to receive a standing ovation for his rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". You can view his performance on YouTube.com.
Ted has made it in the top 5! He will appear with the other 4 acts in a live finale event on Wednesday, June 9 at 7 pm in the Xerox Auditorium. During this live finale show, in front of an audience of 700 people, the Top 5 will be reduced to the Top 3 and ultimately a final winner will be selected. Tickets for the show are now on sale on the website www.rochesterjazzstar.com . We hope you can join us to help cheer Ted on. Thanks to everyone who voted and helped him advance.
Ted placed first among the 30 music acts! He now advances with others in the top ten, to the second round of voting which begins at 12 AM Sunday night/Monday morning. And to top it off, Ted is scheduled to play live on either Monday May 17 or Wednesday May 19, on CW-16 WHAM-DT (that's 13-2 for those who do not have cable). Should be on at about 7:50 AM.
Ted has entered a video in the Rochester Jazz Star (http://www.rochesterjazzstar.com) contest, an event sponsored by Xerox and the RIJF that uses the entry fee to benefit "BIZ Kid$" You can view videos now and vote for him . Please help him by voting as much as you can before May 14. After May 14, the 10 clips with the highest number of votes will move onto the next round, where each artist will be interviewed live in the morning on CW-16 WHAM-DT the week of May 17. A second round of voting will last from May 17 through May 28 and will determine the Top 5 finalists that will perform in a live finale event on Wednesday, June 9 at 7pm in the Xerox Auditorium. ***The weekend of April 10th, Ted had the opportunity to perform with the McQuaid Jazz Ensemble at the Boston Heritage Music Festival. The Ensemble received silver and Ted was given the Maestro Award, one of only four students out of 900 to receive this award. Good job, Ted!***
***Ted recently had the opportunity to open for Jennifer Batten, Michael Jackson's guitarist for 10 years, at the Montage Grill in Rochester. He played for her a version of Michael's Billie Jean and Jennifer was so impressed by it that she mentioned it on her Twitter page and asked him for a recording so that she can share it with her followers.
