Father and Son perform at The Spin Cafe by Bryan Beard
Two guitars can make music. When they're played by a father and son, they can create harmony. It's even more special when one of the players is just 9 years old. "Well it's easy, very easy and fun to learn," 9 year old Ted Nicolosi said. Ted's Dad, Sam, has played the guitar for years. Ted didn't want to just listen to Dad's sons, even as a toddler. "I had it out all the time and Ted was always underfoot putting his hands on it," Sam Nicolosi said. So for Ted's 7th birthday, Dad bought him a guitar. And Dad is still surprised at how easy music comes to his son. But Ted has an easy explaination. "Just sometimes it takes a good teacher, someone who's patient and doesn't yell at you," Ted said. Ted doesn't get nervous playing in front of a small crowd either. He tunes everything out except for his Dad, and the applause that follows a song. Ted may be musically mature for 9 years old, but his Dad didn't want him playing anywhere too grown up just yet. That's why coffee houses have been a perfect fit. When you're 9 years old it's not about the fame, and definately not about the money. It's about sharing time with Dad. "The absolute best part is that I'm bonded with this little guy," Sam Nicolosi said. "You hear the word bonding alot but there's a definate connection brain to brain. We know the exact movement in a song, we're thinking the same thing at the same time." That's something not always easy for a parent and a child to do. Ted just wants to get one more thing out of his music. "I just hope it'll make me smarter," Ted said. It looks like it'll take more birthdays for him to realize how smart he is already.
